History
On May 15, 1967, a group of women met at St Jude Hall for the purpose of organizing a Brenham Hospital Auxiliary. Administrators from Bohne Memorial Hospital and St Jude Hospital assisted the 40+ members in defining the purpose of the organization: To bring greater community interest and understanding of hospital services through public relations activities. Additionally, the volunteers would provide service to the hospitals at the information desk, reception desk, patient's library and magazine service, letter writing and many other services.
Membership was open to all women who were interested in community health and were willing to provide volunteer service to the hospitals. The organization became known as "The Pink Ladies" due to the distinctive color of their pinafore uniforms. The Auxiliary members had the option of volunteering at either Bohne Memorial or St. Jude Hospital, or both.
In 1970, the group was divided into two volunteer groups - the Bohne Memorial Group and the St. Jude Hospital Group - with each group having their own chairman. However, they continued to meet jointly as the Brenham Hospital Auxiliary. The two groups decided to officially separate and create individual auxiliaries in 1975. They were known as the Brenham Hospital Auxiliary and the St. Jude Hospital Auxiliary.
In February 1983, the Brenham Hospital Auxiliary became the Bohne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary members continued to provide service support along with financial support from Gift Shop sales and fundraising efforts. Several local civic organizations would also conduct fundraisers, such as the Rotary Club?s Fish Fry, with all proceeds going to the hospitals for new equipment.
A special meeting of the Auxiliary was called in November 1983 to change the Auxiliary constitution to reflect that "?the Auxiliary shall be open to all women and men?". The Auxiliary voted unanimously to adopt the constitutional change.
When Bohne Memorial Hospital and St. Jude Hospital merged forming Trinity Community Medical Center, the Auxiliaries of the two hospitals followed suit. In January 1989, the combined auxiliaries of Bohne and St. Jude met to elect officers of the newly organized Trinity Community Medical Center Senior Auxiliary. The service units became known as Trinity North (St. Jude facility) and Trinity South (Bohne facility). Auxiliary members continued to serve at both facilities until January 1992. Once the new obstetrical wing was completed, all hospital services were then totally relocated to Trinity South at Medical Parkway. However, the Auxiliary continued to hold their meetings at Trinity North Hall.
Sister Winifred Templin became the coordinator of the newly-formed Care Center Auxiliary in 2000. The members performed a variety of duties to assist residents and staff of the facility. Some of the activities included playing the piano, escorting residents to and from activities, in-room visitations, greeter and assisting with special events and parties.
In early 2003, the Auxiliary began investigating what steps they needed to take to receive non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization. After many phone calls, letters and filings, the Auxiliary was granted non-profit status in June 2003 and received their Certificate of Incorporation as Scott & White Hospital - Brenham Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary continues to provide support where necessary to Scott & White Hospital - Brenham, Care Center of Brenham, the Family Practice Clinic, the Physical Rehabilitation Center and the Wellness Center. Annually the Auxiliary members provide approximately 10,000 service hours. Through their fundraising efforts, they donate thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.
