Cardiology
Our expert cardiology team, led by Dr. Pierre Zoldhelyi, delivers cardiac care to the heart of Washington County and the surrounding communities. You and your family now have access to a full spectrum of services designed to detect early signs of cardiac disease and keep hearts healthy. And if you require additional services, the Brenham team is linked to a recognized network of Scott & White specialists, leading the way in care and research.
CARDIAC STRESS TESTING:
Scott & White Hospital - Brenham's newest diagnostic tool is our cardiac stress testing lab. Our Cardiology Department test options are:
- Exercise Stress Test - A test used to provide information about how the heart responds to stress. It involves walking on a treadmill at increasing levels of difficulty, while the electrocardiogram, heart rate and blood pressure are monitored.
- Pharmacologically Induced Stress Test - Ordered when a patient does not meet the criteria to walk on the treadmill and a drug is needed to be given intravenously to induce stress to the heart while the electrocardiogram, heart rate and blood pressure are monitored.
- Nuclear Stress Test - A stress test performed with injection of radioisotope intravenously, which allows detection of blood supply to the heart muscle and heart function by a special camera. May be ordered as an exercise stress or pharmacologically induced.
- Echocardiogram - An echocardiogram is a noninvasive test, which uses ultrasound, or high frequency sound waves, to create graphic images of the heart's structures, pumping action, and direction of blood flow within the heart. May be ordered separately, or as part of a stress test.
- Carotid Doppler Ultrasound - An ultrasound exam which uses Ultrasound and Doppler to evaluate the carotid arteries in the neck that lead to the brain. This study is used to detect a blockage or narrowing of the carotid arteries which may cause a stroke.
- Arterial Doppler - A non-invasive exam using Doppler to evaluate the arterial blood flow and to detect blockages in the upper or lower extremities.
- Venous Doppler - A non-invasive exam using Ultrasound and Doppler to create a two-dimensional picture of your veins to evaluate the venous blood flow in the deep venous system of your upper or lower extremities. This test is helpful in diagnosing a blood clot or a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis.)
