At Scott & White Hospital - Brenham, our Birth Center provides beautiful surroundings and a team of dedicated and knowledgeable physicians and nurses that works to provide compassionate care for Moms and babies.

About Our Facility

In 2008, the Birth Center experienced a 10-year record number of deliveries - 503 babies were born at the facility.

Scott & White Hospital - Brenham is always concerned about patient safety. That concern is evident in the Birth Center's state-of-the-art clinical information system, the "QS Perinatal."

The system delivers up-to-the minute information for instant review of patient status in the Birth Center.

Each room is equipped with a workstation that shows the baby's heart monitoring strip and allows nurses to document as needed. Multi-bed surveillance allows all or some patient monitors to be viewed at the same time, and alarm status can be viewed from any location.

Physicians may also monitor patient data directly from their offices or homes. The system also permanently archives fetal heart monitoring strips and patient data for added safety.

If a Cesarean section delivery is required, the Birth Center's operating room is close by and fully equipped to care for Mom and baby.

A new high-tech security system also provides added protection for each family's newborn at Scott & White Hospital - Brenham.

The Comforts of Home

We want our Moms to feel right at home in the Birth Center. After delivery, new Moms relax in post-partum rooms that have tastefully-decorated, home-like atmospheres.

Sleeper chairs are also available for the comfort of Dads who wish to spend the night, and private rooms have beautiful armoires, which house the rooms' TV's.

As in all of Scott & White Hospital - Brenham's departments, providing ultimate customer service is also a priority in the Birth Center.

Our experience nursing staff works closely with the board-certified obstetrical physicians and pediatricians on our Medical Staff to make our Mom's deliveries safe and comfortable and a pleasant experience for the entire family. We go the "Extra Mile" for each and every family.

Educational Offerings

We Offer Choices During Your Stay

We offer choices. Our philosophy is: you shape the experience. You tell us what kinds of things are important. You decide:

• The level of pain management, or whether you'd prefer a completely natural childbirth
• Who will be present with you at your Baby's birth
• Important family or spiritual traditions that you wish to honor
• Who will visit
• Overnight stays for your spouse or birth partner
• How often your baby is in your room
• Choice of rooming-in or nursery stay

Whatever your preference, our team will work with you to create a birth experience uniquely suited to you. So when you're ready to deliver, we are too.

What To Bring From Home

Within a few weeks of your due date, you should gather together the personal items you and your family will need during your stay.

For the mother-to-be

• Comfortable nightgown that opens in the front for easy breastfeeding
• Socks
• Slippers
• Personal toiletries
• Nursing bra
• Bathrobe
• Change of clothes for the trip home; typically, the clothes you wore during your fifth month of pregnancy will be the most comfortable (Feminine hygiene products are provided for you by the hospital.)

For your newborn

• Receiving blanket
• Extra blanket or warm clothing during cold weather
• Undershirt
• Outfit
• Infant car seat for the trip home.  This is required by state law.

For your birth coach

• Change of clothes
• Personal toiletries
• Camera, extra batteries & film or media cards 
• Favorite snacks
• Selection of favorite music; a CD/tape player or radio
• Phone numbers for those you?ll want to contact after delivery

Birth Center Classes

A number of childbirth education classes are offered by the Birth Center at Scott & White Hospital - Brenham. They are designed to help provide a safe, pleasant birth experience and make the transition for each family member a smooth one.

Classes are offered Wednesday evenings or Saturdays to accommodate your schedule.
