In-Patient ServicesAdvance DirectivesThe best way to make sure your wishes are known is to complete and sign a healthcare power of attorney and a living will. Scott & White Hospital - Brenham respects your right to make decisions about the healthcare you receive. Most patients can express their wishes to their doctor but some, who are badly injured or unconscious, cannot. Documents such as living wills and healthcare powers of attorney are helpful in case you become unable to make decisions about treatment for yourself. These documents will not be effective unless you are unable to express your wishes. If you have specific questions about signing a healthcare power of attorney or a living will, you should discuss them with your doctor, clergy member and/or attorney. It is very important to make multiple copies of your completed, signed and witnessed advance directive and healthcare power of attorney forms. Make sure that other family members know where these documents are kept and have copies or access. If you come to the hospital, you will be asked to provide a copy that will become part of your medical record. Pastoral CareOur hospital has Pastoral Care volunteers who are available to assist you and may offer spiritual strength to all patients and family members. Our chapel is open and available for meditation for patients and their families. Ask your nurse for assistance if you wish to visit our chapel or if you wish to reach your clergyman, priest or rabbi. Social ServicesA hospital social worker is available for patients and their families for listening, providing support, helping to arrange for post-hospital care, and crisis counseling. The social worker coordinates needed services to help insure quality care for each patient. |
