Billing & Financial Information

Your charges

Payment for the services our hospital provides is the responsibility of the patient. You may be asked to make a deposit prior to services being provided. As a courtesy, we will file your claim with your insurance plan. When payment from your health insurance remains unpaid, our hospital will send a statement to you.

If you carry additional health insurance policies which cover the cost of your care, we will also file these claims for you.

Our services are provided to all patients without regard to ability to pay. All uninsured patients are provided the opportunity to complete an application for charity care consideration.

Physician billing

The services you receive from your doctor while in our hospital are billed directly from the doctor's office. Additionally, your doctor may order certain procedures which aid in diagnosing your condition and require the services of other doctors specializing in radiology, pathology or anesthesia. Their services are also billed directly from their offices, with the amount covering their professional interpretation of any radiological examinations, pathology or anesthesia services which your doctor ordered for you.

Charges on your hospital statement relating to our Imaging, Laboratory or Anesthesia departments exclude these doctor's fees.

Instead, your hospital charges are for equipment and supplies, necessary for the tests and examinations, and for the services of technologists performing these diagnostic or ancillary services.

Explanation of radiology reports and charges to patients

When you have X-Rays at a hospital, they will initially be seen by the Emergency Room physician and/or your family doctor.

Your X-Ray charges are divided into two parts:

  1. The charge from the hospital covers the technologists, equipment and costs of the X-Ray department.
  2. The charge rendered to you by the radiologist reflects his professional fee for studying your examination and providing radiological interpretation to your physician. This is state law.

The statement for the radiologist's services is not included in your hospital bill. It is sent to you separately from one of the following offices:

Bryan Radiology Associates
P. O. Box 5306
Bryan, TX 77805-5306
(979) 776-8291

Brenham Clinic Association, P.A.
600 North Park St
Brenham, TX 77833
(979) 836-6153

Explanation of Lab Pathology reports and charges to patients

Your laboratory work at Scott & White Hospital - Brenham is under the professional direction of a Board Certified Pathologist. As part of their professional services on your behalf, they are responsible for the accuracy and precision and the appropriate selection of methods of all laboratory tests on your blood or bodily fluids performed at the hospital. These are services required by the Joint Commission and other agencies which accredit this hospital.

The charges for the Pathologist's services for clinical laboratory tests are not included in your hospital bill. Your hospital bill and the pathologist's bill are not duplicated although there may be similar or identical names. If you have any tissues removed during surgery, the Pathologist will process the tissue specimen and make the diagnosis on your case.

A separate bill for these services will be sent to your insurance company or to you from their billing office:

Brazos Valley Pathology
P.O. Box 163567
Austin, TX 78716-3567

Explanation of Emergency Department physicians billing

Brazos Emergency Physicians Association, P.A. (BEPA) is in charge of all Emergency Department's Physician and Nurse Practitioner billing. BEPA will file your insurance for you.

Please note that BEPA is an Independent Group Practice that may not be contracted with your insurance plan. You will receive a bill from BEPA for any balance remaining after payment by your insurance.

If you do not have insurance, the practice is willing to work with you regarding a payment plan, if necessary. Please call BEPA at (713) 470-6006 or toll free at (866) 470-2372 for this or any other questions concerning the Emergency Department Physician's bill.

Insurance

Do not forget to bring your insurance identification cards such as Medicare, Medicaid or other insurance cards. Also, please bring other required claim forms from your insurance company.

The Business Office staff will verify your benefits with your insurance company. Most insurance plans do not normally provide full coverage of your hospital bill; therefore, any deductible or co-payment amounts are due upon your dismissal. Most insurance plans now require that inpatient hospitalization be pre-certified or pre-authorized in order to be eligible for full policy benefits. It is the patient's or guarantor's responsibility to see that this is done.
