History

Scott & White Hospital - Brenham's history dates back to 1931, when the Sisters of St. Francis' healthcare ministry came to Brenham to oversee the Brenham Hospital and Clinic. The sisters purchased the facility in 1935 and changed its name to St. Francis Hospital.

In 1954, the Sisters constructed a new hospital on North Park Street in Brenham and named it St. Jude. A number of renovation projects were completed in the following years including a major one in the mid-1970's.

Meanwhile a second Brenham hospital, Sarah B. Milroy, was constructed in 1931 on West Main Street During the 1970's a new facility was built on Medical Parkway, and the hospital's name was changed to Bohne Memorial Hospital, in honor of the Bohne family, major benefactors of the project.

On March 1, 1989, the two hospitals consolidated to form Trinity Community Medical Center of Brenham (Scott & White Hospital - Brenham). All operations were eventually combined under one roof at the Medical Parkway location. In 1992, a major expansion and renovation project was completed, creating a new Birth Center and expanding a number of administrative offices. The Physical Rehabilitation Center opened that year in a newly-remodeled facility on South Day Street.

In 1997, a Family Practice Clinic opened at 539 Medical Parkway. The family practice clinic is staffed by two board-certified family practitioners and a board-certified physician's assistant.

A new Emergency Department was created in 1999, increasing that department's square footage to 7,535 square feet (over six times the size of the former unit). The facility is currently designated a Level III general trauma center (since 2002).

Construction began in 1999 on a 120-bed long-term care facility on the former St. Jude property on North Park Street. In 2000, Care Center of Brenham opened. That facility is currently licensed for 128 beds.

The Wellness Center opened in January 2003 in a newly-remodeled facility on South Day Street. In 2004, construction began on a $9.5 million expansion that created a new, state-of-the-art Surgical Center. The self-contained facility opened in 2005 and includes 10 pre-op and 10 recovery beds. The Diabetes Center opened in 2006.  An American Diabetes Association-recognized educational program for diabetics, it is located at the Wellness Center. In February of 2007, a two-bed Sleep Diagnostics facility opened at the Wellness Center providing sleep diagnostic and therapy services.

The Professional Center II was purchased during 2007 and renovations were being made to that office building adjacent to the hospital campus on Medical Parkway.

In late 2009, Professional Center I, a $5 million medical office building, on the hospital campus, was complete. The facility will house 10 physician practices as well as diagnostic services.
